Consulting
“/kənˈsəltiNG/”
“The business of giving expert advice to other professionals, typically in financial and business matters.”
Puzzling through unique and sticky situations within your organization?
I have been a consultant full-time, or on-the-side, for over 20 years. I have provided consulting services in a wide and eclectic range of industries, sectors, and organizations, including:
Indigenous community development.
stream and salmon habitat rehabilitation and restoration.
fisheries research, assessments, and community engagement.
forestry and silviculture.
healthcare.
post-secondary education
non-profit organizations governance and development
research and writing
I thrive on navigating complex scenarios and stepping outside the status-quo to provide a range of expertise and advice.
I have also been a post-secondary faculty member on a range of courses: human resource management, proposal and grant writing, interdisciplinary studies, plus interpersonal skills, conflict management, and leadership.
Having navigated many industries, many organizations, and having a unique and eclectic skill-set, I come at challenges from various angles and approaches - drawing on diverse experiences.
Educational Design
“\di-ˈzīn”
“To create, fashion, execute, or construct according to plan. To have as a purpose. To devise for a specific function or end”
Need some original approaches to a range of educational challenges and opportunities?
I have a Doctor of Education specializing in Online and Distance education.
A Masters degree in Adult Education.
I have designed, delivered and evaluated a range of education products, courses, programs, and plans.
These include:
culturally-relevant financial literacy course for seven Indigenous communities connected by one language.
career and personal development course for individuals on Employment Insurance to participate in pipeline development in north-central BC.
Interpersonal communication and conflict management for college and university-level, as well as for disadvantaged and marginalized individuals working on skill development.
Cultural safety and cultural humility education and training for healthcare professionals.
Facilitating learning is a joy and passion. I have led education projects across almost every age group and a range of cultures.
I most enjoy when I am equal learner and facilitator.
Workshops
“\ˈwərk-shäp”
“A usually brief intensive educational program for a relatively small group of people that focuses especially on techniques and skills in a particular field.”
Need an innovative approach to workshop design and delivery?
I have designed, delivered and evaluated workshops across many sectors, in many communities, and utilizing a variety of techniques and tools. I have delivered these face-to-face, online, and in blended formats.
Most recently, I was engaged in piloting curriculum and workshops focussed on cultural safety and cultural humility in healthcare. This involved workshop design and delivery over a period of three years. Each workshop was both training and piloting learning material.
I have designed and delivered workshops:
to strengthen interpersonal communication and conflict management.
to support academic and strategic planning in post-secondary.
to support community engagement and dialogue on the meaning of Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and community members co-existing and thriving.
to support operational and strategic planning in non-profit organization and community development agencies.
to develop community capacity and education plans.
I have done this for decades — as well as participating in many.
I take what I have learned from the good, bad, and ugly and put this into practice in design and delivery.
