About

I grew up on the northwest coast of British Columbia, Canada, in a place called Haida Gwaii.

For most of my life, I have lived in western and northern Canada, and I have travelled to many parts of the world, including Australia, China, Indonesia, Central America, the United States, and Europe.

I have been writing online since the early 2000s.

In the spring of 2022, I left a decade-plus career in the public sector. During the COVID pandemic, I was a senior administrative leader (Indigenous Health) in healthcare and was deeply immersed in emergency planning and response for over two years.

For over a decade, I have been a faculty member in various disciplines, including Human Resources, Community Education, Communications, Tourism, and Interdisciplinary Studies. I am still a faculty member supporting first- to fourth-year Communications courses (online).

I have over twenty years of experience in Instructional Design, workshop design, and facilitation, as well as in community development and community resilience support.

Before entering the public sector, I was a consultant. Much of my work was for and with First Nation communities in western Canada.

For almost three decades, I’ve worked for and with Indigenous communities across western Canada - in various roles and capacities (paid and volunteer), including:

  • Healthcare delivery

  • Aboriginal rights and title

  • Development Corporations

  • Treaty research and negotiation

  • Fisheries including habitat rehabilitation

  • Youth work plus land and ocean-based education

  • Forestry including silviculture and revenue sharing

  • Mining, mining policy, and Impact Benefit Agreements

I currently have various creative enterprises underway (see some below)
